Roland L. Freeman
On June 29, 2007, the National Endowment for the Arts just recognized Roland L. Freeman, a Washington DC based photographer who is best known in the fiber world for his major work documenting African American quilters throughout the United States. That book was Communion of the Spirits, treasured by all of us who have a copy and/or who may have been fortunate enough to part of this work. Mr. Freeman continues his life work of documenting folk artists throughout the world, helping to recognize and preserve ways of life that are much endangered or that rise out of a particular moment in time. and, he has done this work with the utmost respect for the artists he has encountered. On top of all that...he's a great photographer!
